COIN 101: Israel & the OECD

A cover-up and a dent in Israel's armor in one. Though still getting its way in the West Bank and the OCED, Israel has suffered its latest embarrassment on the political, economic, and diplomatic battlefields.

A draft report of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, seen by The National, "reveals that Israel has breached one of the organization's key requirements on providing accurate and transparent data on its economic activity."

According to the report, "The information supplied by Israel, the report notes, includes not only the economic activity of its citizens inside its recognized borders but also Jewish settlers who live in the occupied territories of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Golan in violation of international law.

Israel’s accession to the OECD on such terms threatens to severely embarrass many of the organisation’s member states, especially those in the European Union that are publicly committed to avoiding collusion with the occupation."

This story has many angles, but the bottom line is that Israel again is being defeated by its military superiority. It seems incapable of understanding 21st century counterinsurgency.
