On Thursday night Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas sought guarantees from America that it would pressure Israel on a settlement freeze, and to specifically reverse the 1,600 units that derailed the proxy talks. Israel responded by sealing the West Bank for 48 hours, fearing "rioting," and deploying additional IDF security forces.
Israel's recent actions created these tensions in the first place! So will Israel once more provoke the very violence it seeks to preempt? This conflict is rapidly escalating, a very bad sign.
